India outreach team training

Well, I’ve been in Rostrevor, Ireland for almost a week now and its been great to be back here on the Emerald Isle among old and new friends. I’ve had a wonderful week of reconnecting with people here and its been great to see where we will be living soon (actually got to see our apartment! Its awesome!).

I’ve been meeting regularly with the India outreach leaders, Peter and Holly. They are fabulous and are definitely going to lead a great outreach for their team! The team of 11 (including Peter and Holly) are all wonderful and its cool to see people so excited to head to Delhi to serve there. This whole week has been dedicated to outreach prep so its been the best week for me to be here. The team has been working on dramas, talks, powerpoint presentations, and more.

I’ve had a chance each meeting to answer questions and do some training on topics such as cross-cultural communications, public speaking in another culture, and basic Hindi language lessons. Its always exciting to share about India with people who are heading there!

We all leave for Delhi on Saturday and so we’d appreciate your prayers for the following:

1. That we all have safe travels and no problems with visas at the border.

2. For Elijah’s health. He’s developed a head cold today and I’d really love to see him healed of that before we get on another plane on Saturday and head into Delhi (recently ranked the worst air in the world!).

3. For my mom’s health. She’s been a star helping me so much with Elijah so I can be with the team as much as possible but she’s been fighting off a cold and we could use prayers for healing for her as well!

4. Please pray for the team as they finish their preparations for outreach! Only 2 more days! Its going to be great!

Thanks so much! I’ll update again once in Delhi. Looking forward to seeing the kids again, working with the team there, reconnecting with old friends and of course seeing family!

Ireland & India trip update

Sorry I haven’t written in a while – I’ve been going crazy getting ready for the trip to Ireland & India. Getting very excited – we leave tomorrow!

Some great news – all the India outreach team have their visas! YAY! Please continue to pray, however, for their finances. They need to see some more money come in right away to cover all the team’s expenses while on outreach. Thanks!

I’ll be posting regular updates while away so be sure to stay tuned to our website for stories and pictures of the trip! Our first week is in Ireland training the outreach team, followed by 3 weeks in India. Can’t wait!

the PIO is here!

That’s right! Elijah’s PIO (Indian immigration document) arrived today in the mail – in plenty of time for us to travel! Yippee! God is good – thank you so much for praying for the essential document for Elijah!

Now all we need is that PR for Richard! Thanks again for your prayers!

PIO prayers needed

If you’re reading our blog today would you please lift us up in prayer this morning?

Richard and I are heading down to the Indian consulate in a few minutes to try to get Elijah’s Indian immigration (called PIO). We applied for it in December but there seems to be some hiccups in the process, which are completely unfounded and ridiculous. The Indian consulate in Toronto issued me my PIO last year with no problems and for some reason this consulate is giving us a hard time even though we have all the documentation we need to get Eli his PIO. Please pray hard because if we can’t get the PIO approved today, we need to withdraw our application for PIO today (and lose the money we spent trying to get it) so that we can get him a tourist visa in time for our trip on Feb 16th.

India outreach: prayer needed

Richard and I have been having a great time getting to know the India outreach team in Ireland via Skype the past few weeks. We’ve been doing some training with them, informing them about the ministries they’ll be volunteering with, and helping with logistics for the team.

The leaders of the team are Holly and Peter – please pray for them! Its their first time to India and they are excited to be leading this outreach to Delhi. Peter is getting married in Ireland shortly after outreach so please pray for him and his fiancee – she is not going to India with him so the separation just prior to the wedding could be hard on them both. Richard and I certainly know what that’s like!

VISA PRAYERS NEEDED:

Please pray urgently for the India outreach team’s visas, which are still not processed due to some problems with the team’s applications. The online application system had some glitches which caused some delays and there are also some financial issues for the team with regards to tickets and visas. Please pray that the visas arrive SOON as the team leaves for Delhi on Feb 25th. They need those visas back asap! Please also pray for the team’s finances – that all the money they need to cover their plane tickets, visas, and ground expenses comes in before they leave for Delhi.

DTS lectures: cross-cultural missions

This is a very exciting week for us in the Compassion & Justice DTS because a good friend of ours is the guest speaker! Nancy Jane Johnson has been a close friend of ours for several years and her family is dear to our hearts…after all, it was Nancy Jane that married us, her husband who helped get Richard into the country for our wedding, her oldest daughter planned the wedding, her youngest daughter did our flowers, and her 2 son in laws professionally video taped the wedding. It was a true Johnson family affair!

I’ve been friends with NJ’s daughters for years now, having me them through church when I first moved to Toronto. And since being married, Richard and I have both grown even closer with the Johnsons. So needless to say, we were very excited that Nancy Jane was able to be a speaker on the DTS this year and speaking on a topic she is very familiar with: Cross Cultural Missions.

Please join us in praying for NJ as she teaches and guides the students. Pray, especially, for her health. She had laryngitis just prior to flying to Ireland and she’s still on the mend. Thanks!

Remembering Nathan Asiimwe

Fellow YWAM Ireland co-worker, Nathan Asiimwe, passed away yesterday morning after a long battle with cancer. Please join me in praying for his wife, Annmarie, and his 3 daughters Grace, Joy and Hope (who is barely 6 months old). A memorial service is being held for Nathan at YWAM Ireland’s centre, An Cuan, on Wednesday this week to celebrate his life.

Nathan, originally from Uganda, and Annmarie, originally from Ireland, have a Media & Communications ministry in Banbridge, Northern Ireland and also in Uganda where they broadcast sermons and offer other ministry support (like pastoral care/counseling) to native Ugandans. A memorial service is being held in Uganda on Wednesday as well.

‘Peace Wall’ gate change in Alexandra park, Belfast

It always surprises me when people question why I’m a missionary in Northern Ireland. “Isn’t there peace there now?” Well, not really. Its more like an absence of conflict, to be honest. The following article shows how communities are trying to move forward into some reconciliation by opening up a dialogue to keep a Peace Wall gate open longer hours in Alexandra park, Belfast.

temperatures drop in Delhi

In the midst of all the holiday hustle and bustle, please remember to pray for the street children and families in north India (Delhi and other areas) as the temperature has recently dropped to zero celcius. Families have little to protect themselves from the cold and many die in the winter months due to lack of protection or help.
