compassion & justice DTS begins!

What is a DTS?

A Discipleship Training School (DTS) is a 6 month discipleship program run by YWAM globally (schools are held in over 100 countries). DTS is an opportunity to spend time getting to know God deeper and also making him known to others. The DTS is divided into 2 phases: 3 month lecture phase & 2-3 month outreach phase. The lecture phase involves daily lectures from speakers around the work talking on God’s character, the Holy Spirit, Father heart of God, etc. The lecture phase also includes local ‘outreach’ or service in the local community. The 2-3 month outreach phase is an opportunity to put what you’ve learned about God into action by serving others in another country. This can be done through church planting, serving the poor in India, teaching about forgiveness and reconciliation in Israel & the Palestinian territories, etc. Outreach is a chance to do so much for others. DTS can be life changing if you allow God to challenge you and talk to you.

What is a Compassion & Justice DTS?

Every year, YWAM Ireland runs several DTS schools. This year, they are running their first Compassion & Justice focused DTS with 18 students from many countries – even as far as South Africa! This Discipleship Training School will focus primarily on God’s heart for compassion and justice. The outreach locations will be to nations such as India, China, Israel, etc.

We’re leading the Compassion & Justice outreach to India!

Since we have such a huge passion for Delhi and the street children there, Richard and I are pleased to be leading the 2 month outreach to Delhi, India beginning March 1st, 2012. We will be leading a team of about 8 students to serve the poor in Delhi, particularly street children. The team will work with YWAM initiatives there as well as Catalyst and their programs for helping both boys and girls break the cycle of poverty by leaving the slum and getting some education/job training. Our team will help with art workshops for street children, work in a day shelter for street children, help teach in 2 preschools in slums and more! Most importantly the team will focus on building relationships with street children who are typically shunned and show them they are worthy of being loved.

Please pray for the DTS as the students arrive in Northern Ireland this weekend and lectures start on Monday! You can pray specifically for:
- the leader of the DTS (Lidia)
- the 6 staff
- our preparations for the outreach over the coming months

Nomadic Samuels

'Nomad: one who no permanent abode but moves about from place to place, usually seasonally and often following a traditional route or circuit.' We are 'nomadic' as we follow Jesus, building a bridge between Ireland & India as we love across great divides.
